In 1996, Pastor Carie Seratt birthed an idea that would bring hope, self-esteem and confidence to the children of the community for their first day of school.
Initially helping a few hundred children, OPERATION BACKPACK AND BEYOND now reaches over 1300 children supplying them with backpacks loaded with school items, brand new pair of shoes and a pair of socks. The Blue Cross/Blue Shield Health Safari Wagon has recently teamed up with OPERATION BACKPACK AND BEYOND to perform medical examinations and hand out community safety awareness material.
Strong support for the outreach comes directly from the members of CIC and other long standing businesses in the community such as Fry’s, Arizona Cardinals, Arizona Diamondbacks and TriWest Health Care. Every year this outreach reaches more and more children and is a blessing to families in the community of Glendale, Arizona.
THANKSGIVING OUTREACH
The Thanksgiving holiday is a time to show our gratefulness of family, friends and freedom. Although traditionally celebrated with a large meal, there are many that cannot share in this American custom due to either financial or domestic challenges. In 1998 Covenant International Church, launched a community program called, “Thanksgiving Outreach” that gave away over 100 turkeys to families in the community. Since that time we have teamed up with St. Mary's Food Bank and now provide 3000 meals to needy families during the Thanksgiving season. We also help indiviual church families with a Thanksgiving meal.
